Last week we hosted a bloggers dinner and cocktail masterclass over at Rum & Sugar, one of London’s largest rum bars (with almost 175 rums no less to its name!)
Set within the impressive Grade I listed building in West India Quay, Rum & Sugar is a lively affair. By the time we arrived, the bar was already starting to fill with thirsty locals in need of an after-work pick me up. Spirits were high and we were very much looking forward to our evening.
The night began with a delicious four-course dinner. Beginning with Sweet Potato Crackers and Chilli Cheese Fritters for nibbles. Our starter was the delicious Beetroot Cured Salmon, with Smoked Potato Salad, Beetroot and Spiced Rum Purée. Followed by Herb Crusted Cod with Red Pepper Ragú. For the main we tucked into a mouth-watering Sweet Cajun Glazed Chicken Salad and finally finishing with Baked Chocolate Ganache, Orange Caramel, Salted Nut Brittle, Clotted Cream.
Once we couldn’t possibly fit another mouthful, we retreated to the cocktail making station where we were to be given a masterclass from Head Bartender, Alessio Franzese. We poured, shaked and stirred our arms off, creating wonderful concoctions including a Rum Cosmopolitan and the classic Mojito, but the best drink of all was most definitely the Apple RUMour – we could have happily had another round!
We left with big grins on our faces – and that was only partly the rum’s fault.
